Rules and Regulations

General Rules:

1. Conduct Yourself With Honor, Integrity, Maturity, and Respect.

Please remember when grouped with people from outside of our guild or utilizing public forums, such as trade chat, you are representing not only yourself, but also the entire guild. Greediness, immaturity, and dishonorable behavior will not be tolerated. If we receive a report of the above behavior, appropriate action will be taken, up to and including permanent removal from the guild.

If a problem arises with another guild member, take the issue out of guild chat and resolve the matter in a mature manner in private whispers or chat. In the case of an ongoing issue, please report the issue to an officer so that it can be dealt with in an appropriate manner.

2. Do Unto Others...

We have members of all levels and classes. Many of our members are more than happy to help out other members when asked, however, please remember that helping one another is a two-way street.

3. New Members

We're always happy to have fresh blood. If you have a friend or have grouped with a player that you would like to invite to the guild, direct them to this web site to apply to the guild.

Additionally, while we are happy to see the guild grow, invitations should not be taken lightly. In order to remain a quality guild, we must have quality members.

If you have a friend or have grouped with a player that you would like to have join the guild, take the time to let them know what GotL is all about and help them out by orienting them with our website, rules, and conduct. We have an application process in place, which must be followed in order to be admitted to the guild.

Quality guilds are not built by inviting every low level player that ask for an invites in Goldshire.

Guild Guidelines:

1. Guild Ranks

Promotions within the guild will be granted based upon a combination of the following factors:

- Participation
- Attitude
- Guild Contribution

The guild ranks are as follows:

a. Kidnapped - This rank is designated for members who have either not logged into the game for an extended period of time or for accounts with suspicious activity that we deem may have been hacked.

b.  Initiate - All new members start at this rank.  Members will remain at this rank as a probationary measure while we get to know each other.

d.  Knight - Once you have satisified a probationary period, you may be promoted to a Knight by showing active participation, a cooperative attitude, and a mature playstyle.

e.  Meritous Knight - Meritous Knights have shown a consistant interest in the guild. They have made themselves valuable and beneficial additions to Guardians.

f.  Guardian - Guardians are long-standing members who have gone above and beyond to provide aid and leadership to other guild members.  Guardians have donated their time, energy, and focus on making our community better by placing the needs of the guild above their own, such as respeccing characters when needed, taking the time to run other members through instances for, donating profession resources, etc.

g.  Elder Guardian - Elder Guardians have shown the leadership, organization and communication skills needed to fill this position.  Elder Guardians have a good knowledge of all classes and abilities, and are available on a consistant basis to provide advice and guidance to all members.

h. Raid Leader - Raid Leaders...'nuff said.

i. High Counselor - This rank is designated for our guild officers.  These are a select few who have been chosen to handle additional guild matters for the community such as administering rules, handling suggestions, promotions, supervising the guild bank, and making decisions based on feedback from the community.  Officers are also a resource for members to discuss situations or to field questions regarding conduct and/or guild regulations.

2. Grouping/Instances

Always try to group with guild members whenever possible. Guild members should take presedence for open positions over non-guilded players.

Be courteous to all group members and act accordingly. Remember, you are representing Guardians of the Light and your actions reflect on the entire guild.

Always be sure to follow loot guidelines agreed upon by all members of the party.

3. Guild Chat

Please be respectful of your fellow guild mates in Guild Chat.  In-game Guild Chat is a PG-13 environment. There are a few younger players amongst our ranks and as such, Guardians of the Light has designated Guild Chat as a family-friendly environment.

Do not personally attack fellow guild members. While joking is allowed, attacks of a malicious nature will not be tolerated and should be reported immediately. This includes in whispers.

People of all nationalities, races, sexual preferences, and religions play WoW and it is important that we respect each others' differences. As in real life, discussions and/or comments about the above topics are hot-button issues and are a launching ground for tempers. Therefore these topics are not welcome within our community.

4. Ventrilo

Many members of the guild utilize Ventrilo on a regular basis.

Our ventrilo server is solely for the use of guild members.  If you have a need to allow non-guilded members on our vent server, contact an officer for permission prior to providing our server information.

Being that Ventrilo is a live chat environment, it can sometimes be harder to censor ourselves and words slip out. Members under the age of 18 should gain parental consent before joining our Ventrilo server. If you wish to participate in Ventrilo, the client software can be downloaded at www.ventrilo.com and you can obtain the server information from a Guild Officer.

For conversations of a more sordid nature, members may utilize the 18+ channel within the server for this use.  Contact an officer if you would like the password for this channel.

Important:  Sending .wav files over vent results in an automatic and permanent ban.

*NOTE*: Use of this program is a privilege which may be revoked if abused.

5.  Guild Readmittance

We do not hold an open door policy.  If you leave the guild, do not expect an open invitation to come back.  There may be rare instances of a former member requesting to come back to the guild and these situations will be decided upon by the Guild Officers, however this is the exception and not the rule, so do not take the decision to leave lightly.

a) If you take your main out of the guild don't forget to take your alts too, your alts will also be removed if they remain in guild. We expect a certain amount of loyalty from our members. We are here to help each other with progression as a guild. We do not want to become a guild full of alts. We are not responsible for gearing up your main to see you leave for another guild for your own personal gain.

6. Guild Bank

Our Guild Bank is active and we encourage all members to utilize this tool in a respectful manner.

Please only request items that you need when you need them and do not abuse this privilege. Taking items for other characters that are not in the guild or hoarding items personal profit is not considered a "need" basis. The Auction House will be patrolled for items that have been withdrawn from the Guild Bank to be sold directly for profit. These types of actions will not be tolerated and may result in removal from the guild.

Remember to return the favor. You may pick up items or materials that will be extremely useful to other members of the guild. As our primary goal is to help each other, we ask that you deposit needed items or materials to help out your fellow guild mates.  However, please do not donate "trash" items to the guild bank.  For example:  gray items and items easily obtained from a vendor should not be donated.

The last tab of our guild bank are high-end items and requests for distribution must be submitted to an officer for withdrawal.

Donations deposited to the guild bank become property of the guild.

Raiding Guidelines:

Our goal is to progress through end-game content and raiding. Level 80 characters that wish to participate in raids are required to utilize the web site Guild Event Calendar to sign up. If you do not sign up, you do not go.

1. General Conduct

As with all aspects within the Guild community, please act accordingly with maturity and respect.

Raids are only successful when all members work together toward a common goal.  Teamwork, or the lack of, will make or break a raid.  Please be sure to enter a raid with a team-oriented frame of mind in order to assist in the success of your runs.

If you have a question, don't be afraid to ask. We would rather take a moment to explain a fight than to have the raid wipe due to confusion.

Remember, there are 10 or more people to keep organized in a raid. To minimize confusion, please keep idle side-talk to a minimum prior to, and during, boss-fights as well as during loot rolls. This will ensure that all parties know their role in the fight and will keep the raid moving at a faster pace.

2. Sign-Up Guidelines

We currently have multiple teams running on a weekly basis. By signing up for a run, please remember that you are committing yourself to that team for the scheduled duration of that run.

You MUST be signed up in order to attend a raid.  If you are not signed up, you will not attend.  No exceptions.

Sign-ups are accepted on a first signed/first served basis for the designated roles that are posted to be filled for a specific raid.

3. Attendance

If you sign up for a raid, you are expected to make an effort to be there. We understand the real life happens and plans change unexpectedly. If this is the case, please make an effort to notify us that you will be unable to attend by changing your sign-up status on the web site. Multiple no-shows without good reason will lessen your credibility to the team. Remember, raids are planned around those who have signed up. If you do not show up for raids you sign up for, the whole team may not be able to make the run happen.

During a raid, if you need to leave for unexpected reasons, it is important that you notify the team so that a replacement can be found. Real life happens to all of us, but there are 9 other people depending on you. If you go AFK without notifying the raid leaders and never return, this causes a major delay in waiting to see if you are returning before adding a replacement player. Additionally, multiple AFKs during a raid are detrimental to the raid as a whole.  Please do not put your team members in the position of having to replace you because you are going AFK after each pull.

Please be signed on to your character and prepared to raid at the posted invite time. This includes having all repairs completed and being stocked up on reagents, potions, etc. We will make every effort to have raid invites and summons completed so that we can ensure that the raid starts on time.

4. Raid Leaders

Each raid team has a designated leader and assistant. These people will be responsible for explaining boss fights (if needed), managing loot drops, and keeping the raid moving at a steady pace. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the leader or assistant for your team.

5. Loot Rules

All raid members are eligible for loot, providing that it will benefit them.

To minimize confusion, Raid Leaders should set up Master Loot rules. The designated Master Looter will post the item being rolled for at the time. Please pay attention to the item being posted by the Master Looter before performing your roll to minimize confusion and the need to re-roll. When the item is posted, players who are eligible and need that item should roll in a timely fashion. The Master Looter will then award the item to the highest roller.

**For 25 man raids, we are currently working on a 1 Tier item, 1 Main Spec Epic item loot system.  Tier is also main spec first.  Raid Leaders track loot won in order to ensure that everyone has a fair chance at loot and that it is being done in a consistent manner.  Additionally, for main spec rolls, players are eligible for gear of their gear class, and 1 class lower.  For instance, plate classes are eligible for main spec rolls on plate and mail only.

6.  Pugging Raids

Guardians of the Light is based on teamwork and as such, we expect our members to work together as a team.  Guild members are not permitted to pug raids that are on the guild web site.  Exceptions to this rule are:

a.  The raid(s) you have signed up for were full and you were not able get in those scheduled raids.

b.  You are unable to make a scheduled raid due to scheduling conflicts.  In this case, you must notify an officer or raid leader prior to attending a pug group via whisper or in-game mail.

7.  Continuations

a. Continuations must be posted on the web site calendar with at least 24 hour notice.

b. If a continuation cannot be continued as a guild, then no guild members are allowed to pug using the guild's raid ID. This means that if a guild raid is finished, no members are allowed to go back in to that raid to continue without the 24 hour continuation notice (as listed above). The exception to the 24 hour notice, in this instance, would be if the continuation is to happen in under 24 hours. If this is the case, the continuation time is to be announced and agreed upon before the current run is called and shall also be posted on the web site immediately.

8.  Alts in Raids

For raids that are classified as "progression" for the guild, meaning that either we are still working to down all bosses or that a large number of people still need gear from that particular raid/level of raiding, alts are not welcome to sign up.  The only instance where alts can be brought to a "progression" raid are if the raid leader specifically requests that you bring your alt to fill a need in the raid, such as a healer or tank.

If you wish to run your alt in a "progression" raid, you can pug that character out.

The following raids are currently listed as "progression" for the guild:

10/25 Man Firelands

9. Character Swaps

If you enter a raid on a character, you will be expected to remain on that character during the raid, unless requested to do so by your Raid Leader. This helps to ensure that the raid continues at a steady pace so that there aren't long breaks while people change characters, summon, etc. This also eliminates the possibility of a person with multiple characters manipulating a run so they can secure a loot drop for an alternate character that is not on the team.
